Scott and Renee Montgomery

We grew up in western Pennsylvania and western New York respectively. We married in 1991 and began our journey together as partners. At year five of our marriage, we took a trip to southeast Asia where we met with several missionary friends. It was while visiting a hospital in Cambodia that the realities of the world hit us hard. This hospital had no medicines or bandages for its patients, many of whom had stepped on a landmine left by the Khmer Rouge and lost their arms or legs. We were privileged to grow up in America, in a nice home with all that goes with it, knowing about Jesus; it was at that point that we felt our privilege. We knew our lives would never be the same again. We needed to be involved in what God was doing to bring all people to Himself.

God always has a process to grow us and refine us; that is what we call “the journey”. In 1997, God moved us to Baton Rouge, LA where we started to go on some mission trips to Zambia and Nigeria. In 2001, the Lord took us to Birmingham, AL where we joined a church planting team. Renee started the missions program and led several trips until the Lord relocated us to South Korea in the middle of 2003. In Korea, we worked with NCDKorea and helped churches transition to small groups. It was an incredible time in our lives. God brought us back to Birmingham near the very end of 2005 and Scott went on staff at the church that we helped to plant.

Scott not only oversaw missions, but he also built campuses for the church (since they technically didn’t have a paid position for missions). Renee stayed involved with the missions department as well as coordinating many missons-focused classes, which help people understand God’s heart for the nations. We recommend you check out a class wherever you live (www.perspectives.org). We were honored to meet so many people that were working in some of the hardest places on earth and get behind their work. We have always advocated for the church to be highly involved with what God is doing among the nations. We believe that is God’s highest priority!

In 2019, we left the local church to start SOAR Global, where we endeavor to make the name of Jesus famous in ALL the earth. These are exciting days that we live! We can complete the Great Commission in our lifetime! Join us on the journey!
